Livelihood Loans

What a livelihood loan means to Bertha and her baby is freedom from poverty. The loan sharks that own the carts and inventories for the street vendors often make people like Berta endentured "slaves" for life. Berta with a loan from one of Providence's Livelihood Loan Organizations (LLO’s) can now own her own cart, buy her produce from a wholesaler and have enough to feed her own family, improve their diet, housing and provide for the education of her children. Berta and her family now have a future with hope.

 Profile of Providence’s LLO loans:

  • Loans range from $25 to $250
  • Repayment terms average 6 months
  • Repayment rates are 97%
  • All are character loans, not collateralized
  • Serviced by trained national staff and coaches
  • Loan interest pays for all loan related services

Providence also does some larger scale small business loans that range from $1000 to $25,000 that create livelihoods for many employees.
